چکیده

Contaminants cause a decrease in the quality of materials with each recycling step. These quality losses should be minimized to increase the sustainability of resources use. Quality losses cannot be measured using weight-based recovery definitions alone, as the quality degradation cannot be translated by mass measures. Therefore, a better measure of the efficiency of resource use is investigated in the present work. Exergy is a measure of the quality of the energy and of resources in systems. The exergy losses are a thermodynamic measure of exhaustion and thus, of the quality losses in the resource systems. We describe a method to calculate the exergy content and exergy losses of metals during recovery and recycling of a concept car. The exergy losses attributed to recycling (the pollution with other metals) and the consequent need for dilution can be used as indicators of the quality loss of materials and of the efficiency of resource use in product systems. 2006 Elsevier Ltd. Thermoeconomic analysis of reducing exergy losses in greenhouses with hydroponic cultivation system through drainage recycling and formation of water quality pyramid

Employing non-conventional water resources using treatment and recycling is considered as the main resource in addressing future water scarcity. Although non-conventional water recycling has been investigated in details in the literature, its impacts on irrigation-fertilizing systems have not been discussed using thermoeconomic analysis.  In this case study, using a hydroponic greenhouse system...

Exergy and Energy Analysis of Effective Utilization of Carbon Dioxide in the Gas-to-Methanol Process

Two process models are used to convert carbon dioxide into methanol. These processes have been extended and improved using Aspen Plus simulator software. Both processes are found in the CO2 correction system. In this machine, the desired synthesis gas is produced in a flexible configuration. At the same time, the conversion of CO2 to hydrogen via a copper-based catalyst ha...

Application of Exergy Analysis and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) for Reduction of Exergy Loss in Acetic Acid Production Process

Exergy analysis and response surface methodology (RSM) is applied to reduce the exergy loss and improve energy and exergy efficiency of acetic acid production plant. Exergy analysis is run as a thermodynamic tool to assess exergy loss in reactor and towers of acetic acid production process. The process is simulated in Aspen Plus(v.8.4) simulator and the necessary thermodynamics data for calcula...

Exergy Analysis of a Novel Combined System Consisting of a Gas Turbine, an Organic Rankine Cycle and an Absorption Chiller to Produce Power, Heat and Cold

The current work investigates the exergy analysis of a new system to generate power, heat, and refrigeration. In the proposed system, the heat loss of a gas turbine (GT) is first recovered by a Heat Recovery Steam Generator (HRSD), then by an Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC) to generate warm water and additional power, respectively. In the ORC, reheating is used to increase the output power, the req...
